GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Microwave conditions have been shown to be an efficient, mild and rapid method for a one-pot four-component synthesis of some novel benzo[a]furo[2,3-c]phenazines. Furan annulated heterocycles were obtained using isocyanide, o-phenylenediamine, 2-hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione and aromatic aldehydes under catalyst- and solvent-free microwave conditions. This work has the advantage of easy work-up, convenient, relatively short reaction times and the products were isolated with high yields.
