Augmenting the quality of cancer care for patients living in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) is an urgent international priority. In the Lancet Oncology Commission on sustainable care for childhood cancer, Atun and colleagues articulate a compelling case for a comprehensive scale-up of childhood cancer care in LMICs. They argue that this investment would prevent over six million deaths by 2050, save more than 300 million life-years, and generate cumulative productivity gains four times greater than the projected treatment costs. Incorporating adolescents and young adults (also known as AYA) into this bold plan could create even greater health and economic gains worldwide.
