Reduced graphene oxide decorated with Ag/CeO2 nanocomposite towards room temperature photocatalytic esterification of aldehydes

Abstract In this work, we report an in-situ preparation of Ag/CeO2 anchored on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanocomposite. The Ag/CeO2-rGO is considered to be a simple, recyclable, and durable photocatalyst for esterification of aldehydes at room temperature under visible light irritation. It was found that the 2–5 nm-sized Ag-nanoparticles decorated on CeO2 with a size 10–30 nm along with the surface of reduced graphene oxide. The as-synthesized nanocomposite exhibited a higher conversion rate and best selectivity headed for the ester as a major product with 86% conversion of aldehyde and 99% selectivity.
