The simultaneous improvement of strength and plasticity of a novel alloying steel by precipitation recovery annealing

Abstract The aim of the present study was to combine the beneficial influence of recovery annealing on plasticity and carbide precipitation on strength to simultaneously improve the plasticity and strength of the cold-rolled steel. A novel multi-alloying twinning induced plasticity (TWIP) steel bearing tungsten was designed. The microstructure and strength properties of the steel were investigated. It was observed that annealing at 400 °C with thermal stability of twins, annihilation of dislocations in addition to Fe21W2C6 precipitates, resulted in synchronous improvement of yield and tensile strengths and elongation of the cold deformed steel.
