Synthesis of asymmetric 5,15-disubstituted tetrabenzoporphyrins

Bicycloporphyrin (CP) is important as a soluble precursor of tetrabenzoporphyrin (BP). 5-Substituted CPs were obtained via selective bromination of the meso position and coupling reactions using a Pd catalyst. 5,15-Disubsutituted BPs were obtained from 5-subsutituted CPs via bromination, a coupling reaction, and a retro-Diels-Alder reaction. We also synthesized an asymmetric 5,15-disubstituted BP with donor–acceptor functions.
