Abstract The location of total seismic earth force is assumed to act at 2/3 of the depth of the wall height, which is reasonable for a homogeneous backfill using M O approach. However, such an assumption is questionable for earth pressures with nonhomogeneous backfills using the modified pseudo-dynamic approach.
