Transition simulation of two-phase intermittent slug flow characteristics in oil and gas pipelines

Abstract This is a numerical study of transition simulation of two-phase intermittent slug flow characteristics in oil and gas pipelines using CFD analysis. The two-fluid free pressure model is employed to solve problem. Moreover, Riemann algorithm has been used to discretize the governing equations. The time history of slug flow initiation, intermittent slug flow repetition and slug flow development have been investigated in this study. The obtained results revealed that as time goes by the slug regime begins and grows and as the slug flow regime grows, it moves forward. Furthermore, it is concluded that when the first slug flow regime begins to grow and develop the second slug flow regime has been formed. Ultimately, it is found that as the first slug grows, the second slug is on the verge of growth.
