depend upon parents for information about their children. From this large-scale comparison, it appears reasonable to continue relying upon parent reports. The longitudinal view is important, and this study reinforces that fact. This was a healthy sample that became healthier through the 28 months. It may be that depression is less prominent in epilepsy that is relatively stable, i.e. no seizures in the previous 12 months. The ultimate validity of that premise is unknown, but now we have some evidence to that effect. The open question has to do with whether the CDI-S is an adequate screen for depression. The low level of clinically significant depressive symptoms, contrasting markedly with the existing literature, means that the screening power of the CDI-S in pediatric epilepsy is still uncertain.
