Time and timing matter in relationships. Relational scholars increasingly acknowledge issues of time and timing in their research, leading one author team to recently conclude in the title of their work, “it’s about time” (Agnew, Hadden, & Tan, 2019). The Relationship Trajectories Framework provides a useful macro-level addition to the study of interpersonal relationships, highlighting specific temporal features of relationships. Our comments here are organized into two major sections. The first section discusses why time is an important consideration in studying relationships; in it, we expand the application of specific trajectory features and suggest ways to account for modern-day trends in relationships. The second section discusses specific aspects of the target article and poses questions that the authors and other relational scholars, might consider as they further expand upon the Relationship Trajectories Framework.
