Recent trends in nano photo-chemo therapy approaches and future scopes

Since the non-specific and non-selective modes of traditional treatments make it difficult to treat cancers, novel nano-aided technologies are necessary to fill those gaps in the current methods. Photo-Chemo Therapy (PCT) has been a cynosure as it has a great scope in the cancer management. Typically, both photo thermal (PTT) and photodynamic therapies (PDT) in combination with chemotherapy using nano-substrates have found to be beneficial. Though PCT has gained attention these days, nano assisted PCT is a budding field. This review focusses recent developments and trends in PCT approaches and implications in details which includes rise of various hybrid nanomaterials integrating PCT with imaging techniques as well as NIR (near infrared) dye based self-assembled nanostructures. Overall, this review would give readers not only an idea on new trends using different novel nano approaches in PCT, but also to help them understand its potential to improve or translate current systems for a better cancer management in near future.
