In their letter, Dr. Schoemaker et al. highlight the importance of patient and parent involvement in the development of treatment guidelines using an example from the guideline recently developed by the Paediatric Association of The Netherlands. The American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and the team members involved in the recent ACR/Arthritis Foundation (AF) guideline agree that parents and patients have unique and valuable expertise that is necessary for the guideline development process. This response provides some clarifications regarding points made by Dr. Schoemaker et al.
