Criticising the reports from UN Special Rapporteur Dainius Pūras as unbalanced, Ian Hickie asserts in The Lancet Psychiatry that the three mutually reinforcing factors identified by Pūras as obstacles to addressing the grossly unmet need for rights-based mental health services are straw-man propositions. However, all three obstacles—dominance of the biomedical model, power asymmetries, and biased use of evidence—are substantive issues.
