To the Editor Gaps in epilepsy are far more pervasive than the frequently mentioned treatment gap. The data gap is the most pervasive. We just do not know enough. The less we know, the more unconcerned we remain, and the less our efforts, including allocating resources, the more we inadvertently extend the status quo. Data from regions with the least substantial epilepsy care and the highest premature mortality attributable to epilepsy are not available. Data that do emerge are often incomplete and disadvantaged by concerns of less than strict compliance with the rigors of scientific methods. Excess premature mortality has been reported from meta-analyses of limited data from low- and middle-income countries.1
