Atmospheric corrosion behavior of copper under static magnetic field environment

Abstract This study investigates the effect of static magnetic field on the corrosion of copper. Tests are performed in NaCl solution under thin electrolyte layer at room temperature. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is used to investigate the electrochemical behavior. SEM and XPS are used to analyze corrosion products. Results show that the magnetic field reduces the ability of ions to migrate from thin electrolyte layer to electrode surface, and inhibits the formation of CuO and soluble copper chloride.
