Synthesis of functional mesoporous carbon microspheres with honeycombed interior structure through dual template

Abstract In the present study, we report a novel dual template approach to prepare N-doped carbon microspheres with highly accessible mesopores and honeycombed interior structure via taking advantage of the surfactant-directed assembly within Pickering emulsion droplets. The resultant carbon microspheres possess ordered mesopores (~7 nm), uniform macropores (~1 μm), a high N content (~7.8 wt%) and a high surface area (~535 m2 g−1). The sizes of macropores can be easily manipulated by adjusting the amount of F127. Moreover, the microspheres show enhanced performance as supports for catalytic hydrogenation.
