The contemporary notions about the mechanisms of the formation of metal-containing nanoparticles are stated, and their analysis is performed. Fast and slow nucleation kinetics and the nucleation of nanoparticles on clusters are considered. The effect of the secondary reactions of nanoparticles on their size and shape is analyzed. The role of a medium and surfactants in the mechanisms of the formation of metal-containing nanoparticles is discussed.
