A short note on decomposition and composition of knowledge

Abstract Decomposition and subsequent composition of objects help us to better understand and handle objects, especially in the case when the object in question is too big or complex. This general statement is fully valid with reference to human knowledge. When passing knowledge on to students or colleagues (whether orally or in writing), there is no other possibility than to do it piece by piece. This paper contributes to a better understanding of the situations when knowledge can be decomposed. Using an abstract mathematical apparatus, we reveal what a suitable decomposition of knowledge is and suggest axioms under which the knowledge can be reconstructed from its pieces.
