In this issue of JAMA Internal Medicine, King and colleagues1 report on the frequency of pharmaceutical company detailing visits and the use of medication sample closets in the United States. Of the primary care practices surveyed in 2017 through 2018, around 50% reported weekly detailing visits and approximately 60% had sample closets. Most of the practices were independent and had small numbers of physicians (<10); one-quarter were affiliated with an academic medical center. Both detailing and sample closets were more common in independent multiphysician and smaller practices and practices without academic affiliations.
