Synthesis and crystal structure analysis of a novel lithium-containing calcosilicate AES-7

A novel microporous calcosilicate material AES-7 was synthesized through the hydrothermal treatment of a mechanochemically prepared precursor. The crystal structure of AES-7 was successfully solved by the direct method using its powder X-ray diffraction data. The chemical composition of AES-7 is |Li7.4(H2O)35.7(OH)7.4| [Si64Ca16O96(OH)96], and the lattice constants and the space group were determined as a = 10.30560(13) Å, b = 17.5116(3) Å, c = 27.7059(4) Å, and Fddd, respectively. The structure of AES-7 is composed of phyllosilicate layers of single tetrahedral nets of 6-rings. The neighboring silicate layers are connected by Li+ and Ca2+ located in the interlayer, resulting in the formation of unique pore structure. Li+ is located at the center of four interlayer oxygen atoms, forming a pseudo LiO4 tetrahedron. The presence of LiO4 tetrahedra was strongly suggested by 6Li and 7Li MAS NMR measurements and crystal structure analysis. AES-7 has a one-dimensional distorted 10-ring channel and can adsorb small molecules such as water.
