Whispering Gallery Mode Lasing from CH3NH3PbBr3/PEO Composites Grown in a Microcapillary

Methylammonium lead bromide (CH3NH3PbBr3)/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) composites are fabricated by a simple microcapillary method. The addition of PEO into a precursor solution of CH3NH3PbBr3 improves the morphology of perovskite crystals grown inside the microcapillary. Under optical pumping, depending on the inner diameter of the microcapillary (ϕ), whispering gallery mode (WGM) lasing is observed in CH3NH3PbBr3 with PEO, and the excitation density threshold of the lasing is lower than that in CH3NH3PbBr3 without PEO. With a reduction in ϕ, the mode number and the lasing threshold fluence decrease based on cavity quantum electrodynamics (cQED), and the time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) decay curve shows that the faster lifetime component is enhanced by the Purcell effect. These findings suggest that strong light confinement occurs in the CH3NH3PbBr3/PEO composites entirely filling the microcavity.
