Abstract In this work, triple networks hydrogel with high strength were made by chemical and physical cross-linking. A covalent bond cross-linking network was formed by polyacrylamide chains, Alginate Sodium and ion form the second network, then the Poly (vinyl alcohol) was added to form the semi-crystalline physical crosslink network by freezing and thawing process. The prepared hydrogels can be stretched beyond 13 times to their initial length, and the toughness of the hydrogels reach 5 MJ m−3. Therefore, triple networks hydrogels have potential application in biomaterials for the merits of high strength and biocompatibility.
