Radiation-assistant preparation of highly conductive, transparent and self-healing hydrogels with triple-network structure

Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA)/Agar/sulfuric acid (H2SO4) hydrogels with triple-network (TN) structure were successfully fabricated using a facile radiation-assistant method. The as prepared PVA/PEGDA/Agar/H2SO4 hydrogels are highly conductive, transparent and self-healing, which are demonstrated as a strain sensor to monitor human activity and an ionic cable to transmit signal. Sulfuric acid plays important roles in this synthesis strategy, which increases the conductive ability, transparency and water retention capacity of the hydrogel. This work proposed a facile method to fabricate physically and chemically cross-linked ion conducting hydrogels, which are promising candidates in flexible electronics.
