Some new N-fused heterocyclic compounds have been simply synthesized via a mild and efficient one-pot two-step four-component reaction between hydrazine hydrate, various 3-oxoalkanonitriles, 2-phthaldehydic acid and different CH-acids in ethanol, in the presence of 4-toluenesulfonic acid as catalyst. A large number of bonds (9 bonds) are formed during the transformation.
