Abstract Inspired by the paving construction method, we construct a new operation on the unit interval from a given operation defined on the unit interval and a discrete operation defined on an index set. In particular, we construct a new t-norm from a t-norm on the unit interval and a discrete t-norm; a t-conorm from a t-norm and a discrete t-superconorm; a proper uninorm from a t-norm and a discrete t-conorm and a uninorm from a t-norm and a discrete uninorm. Dually, we also construct some uninorms (including t-norms and t-conorms) from a t-conorm and a discrete t-conorm, t-subnorm, t-norm or uninorm.
