Bacillus anthracis is the etiologic agent of anthrax disease. In their Communication (DOI: 10.1002/anie.201807442), A. Skerra and co‐workers report on the construction of a variant human lipocalin by protein design that binds the iron(III)⋅petrobactin complex with high affinity. Scavenging of this specific siderophore abolishes supply with the essential metal ion and thus effectively suppresses bacterial growth.
