Proving different structure of topologically similar elements are difficult without their molecular structure. In this work, we report the synthesis of molecular figure of eight, with Co(III) template using click chemistry for ring closing. However, this reaction can yield both [2]catenane and figure of eight complexes. In order to prove the conformation, we synthesize an analogous [2]catenane Co(III) complex exclusively, using a different strategy. Both the compounds are characterized by NMR spectroscopy and HPLC.
