The Z-scheme design was employed to strategically modulate the transfer process of photogenerated charges for hydrogen evolution reaction. The hydrothermally treated Au nanoparticles were introduced as the Z-scheme bridge, which was advantageous in the separation and transportation of active charges. Comparing with pristine samples, the TiO2-Au-CdS nanorods exhibited superior performance for solar water splitting.
