PCNA Space Odyssey: PCNA (the human sliding clamp) is depicted as a protein surface representation (colored in grey) in complex with the first p21‐derived peptide mimetic inhibitor (shown as sticks colored by element). Protein amino acids on the surface of PCNA within 4 Å of the peptide mimetic are colored in purple. The comet highlights the emptiness of the PCNA inner channel which is usually occupied by DNA; the mimetic should block PCNA's ability to be loaded onto DNA.
