In this issue of Chem, Hecht and co-workers show how hole catalysis yields quantitative Z → E isomerization of azobenzenes, a paradigmatic molecular switch, to reach quantum yields larger than 1 in the case of photoinitiated catalysis. This versatile oxidative catalysis paves the way for its use in biological environments and condensed matter.
