Effects of synergy between Cr 2 O 3 and hierarchical HZSM-5 on transformation of LPG toward propylene and ethylene

Abstract Hierarchical HZSM-5 supported Cr 2 O 3 obtained through tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) treatment and subsequent loading of Cr 2 O 3 exhibited synergistically catalytic performance toward the transformation of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to propylene and ethylene due to increase in mesoporosity, weak-acid amount and strong-acid strength. Over 10%Cr 2 O 3 /HZ5-96 with mesoporosity of 51.4% and moderate ratio of weak-acid amount/strong-acid amount of 4, the selectivity of propylene and ethylene reached 58.91% at 600 °C. Furthermore, the formation of methane and heavier C 5 + was dramatically reduced. This provides a clue for catalyst design to the selective transformation of mixed light hydrocarbons.
