Large enhancement of sunlight-driven photocatalytic performance of CdMoO 4 prepared by SDBS-assisted microwave hydrothermal method

Abstract In this paper, CdMoO4 photocatalyst with enhanced sunlight-driven photocatalytic performance was prepared by a microwave hydrothermal method with the assistance of sodium dodecylbenzenseulfonate (SDBS). The photocatalysts were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Tellermethod method (BET), surface photovoltage spectroscopy (SPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The photocatalytic activities of the photocatalysts were evaluated by the decay of rhodamine B (RhB) and methylene blue (MB) aqueous solution under simulated sunlight irradiation. The results demonstrate that adding SDBS into the reaction system increases the specific surface area, enhances the photo-induced charge separation rate of CdMoO4 and the formation of ·O2–. The photocatalytic activity of SDBS-CdMoO4 is higher than that of the reference CdMoO4, originating from the efficient separation of photo-induced charge pairs and increased specific surface area.
