Conventional reduction of 9‐ferrocenoylanthracene yields only the corresponding dihydroanthracene. In contrast, deoxygenation of (9‐anthracenyl)(ferrocenyl)methanol to form 9‐(ferrocenylmethyl)anthracene proceeds efficiently upon treatment with triphenylphosphine/triflic acid, and subsequent hydrolysis.
