Expeditious Conversion of Iodoallenes to Iodoenals Mediated by Sodium Azide and Iodine

This manuscript describes a mechanistically novel method to generate α‐iodo α,β‐unsaturated aldehydes from iodoallenes. Sodium azide and iodine work in concert to effect this addition‐rearrangement‐elimination cascade under mild conditions without the generation of the explosive IN3 reagent. This transition‐metal‐free method offers an operationally simple protocol to achieve this transformation expeditiously.
