Synergistic effect of molybdenum coating and SDS surfactant on corrosion inhibition of mild steel in presence of 3.5% NaCl

Abstract The synergistic effect of molybdenum (Mo) coating and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) for mild steel corrosion inhibition in 3.5% NaCl was investigated. Different thicknesses of Mo were deposited on mild steel by the sputtering method and elemental analysis; surface properties were studied by the energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Moreover, corrosion inhibition efficiency was studied by the potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) methods. The best efficiency was observed in 0.8 mM of the SDS and 75 nm of Mo thickness. The morphology and elemental analysis before and after placing mild steel in the corrosive environment was studied by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and EDS methods.
