Invasive fungal diseases pose a serious threat, and new drugs are urgently needed. In this issue ofCell Chemical Biology,Pries et al. (2018)identified benzamide- and picolinamide-based small-molecule inhibitors with antifungal properties, including some active against pathogenicCandidaspecies. These compounds target an essential component of the fungal secretion machinery, suggesting a new approach to antifungal development.
