The direct iodination of arylhydrazines was achieved using I2 and KOAc in excellent yields. In addition, disulfides were synthesized from arylsulfonylhydrazides in high yields using same catalytic system. The advantageous feature of the present protocol is the exclusion of transition metal catalyst from the reaction for dehydrazination. A number of labile functionalities remain intact during the reaction.
