Hydrotalcite-derived Pd/Co3MnxAl1-xO mixed oxides as efficient catalysts for complete oxidation of toluene

A series of Pd/Co3MnxAl1-xO catalysts with different Mn/Al molar ratio were prepared by calcinations of corresponding Pd/Co3MnxAl1-x-HT hydrotalcites at 800 °C and investigated for catalytic oxidation of toluene. It was found that substitution of partial Al for Mn significantly enhanced catalytic activity of toluene oxidation of these catalysts. In particular, catalyst Pd/Co3Mn0.6Al0.4O showed the highest catalytic activity for toluene oxidation. Light off and complete oxidation temperature was centered at about 176 °C and 210 °C, respectively. According to the TPR, TPD, and XPS results, excellent catalytic activities of Pd/Co3MnxAl1-xO are well positively associated with catalyst reducibility and oxygen species in the surface, this was due to the strong synergistic effect among the components existing in the Pd/Co3MnxAl1-xO materials.
