Maria is one of millions of victims of Colombia's civil war. 15 years ago, she was sexually assaulted in front of her family and neighbours by armed paramilitaries looking to purge her village of left-wing rebels. She was then forced to flee, one of over seven million people internally displaced by a conflict that began in 1964 when the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) took up arms against the state.
