Evaluating respiratory symptoms in patients with rheumatoid arthritis is challenging because several potential causes should be considered, including pulmonary manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis itself, eg, interstitial lung disease and bronchiectasis; respiratory infections because of the increased risk of common and rare pathogens inherent to immunosuppressive therapies; and drug induced pulmonary toxicity and other respiratory comorbidities, eg, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
