Engineering bacterial photoreceptors: We have previously engineered green light sensors from the Synechocystis PCC 6803 CcaSR two‐component system, with six‐ and 117‐fold dynamic range, respectively. Here we have introduced a double PAS domain deletion (recently demonstrated to decrease leakiness) into our system, resulting in a CcaSR system with four times lower leakiness and an almost 600‐fold dynamic range.
