Ties van de Laar started his education as a food scientist at Wageningen University & Research (WUR), where he specialized in food process engineering and earned his BSc and MSc, after which he completed an internship at Mars in the US for some tasty industrial experience. He returned to WUR to begin his PhD in the Food Process Engineering and Physical Chemistry and Soft Matter groups under the supervision of Prof. Karin Schroën and Dr. Joris Sprakel; he will graduate later this year. He is currently a postdoc in the Sprakel group at WUR, where he is further developing single-molecule force sensing.
