Synthesis of carbon doped KTaO3 and its enhanced performance in photocatalytic H2 generation

Carbon-doped KTaO3 was synthesized for the first time via a simple combination of hydrothermal and calcination processes with glucose as the carbon source. XRD and XPS characterizations proved the successful introduction of the carbon atoms into the KTaO3 lattice. Photocatalytic test showed that the carbon-doped KTaO3 presented excellent performance in photocatalytic H2 generation under simulated sunlight illumination, mainly due to the enhanced separation of electron-hole pairs. The optimal sample presents a H2 generation rate of 592 μmol g−1 h−1, which reaches 2.6 times that of pure KTaO3.
