Vicinal anti‐Dioxygenation of Alkenes

Vicinal diols and their derivatives are common motifs in a large number of biologically active compounds and are also important intermediates in organic synthesis. To achieve these structural units in a highly stereoselective manner, direct dioxygenation of simple alkene precursors has proved to be the most straightforward approach, and thus many practical procedures using various strategies have been developed. In this Focus Review a concise summary of the main methods for anti‐dioxygenation of olefins is presented.
