Fishing for inhibitors: Himeic acid A, which is produced by the marine fungus A. japonicus MF275, is a specific inhibitor of the ubiquitin‐activating enzyme E1 in the ubiquitin–proteasome system. The biosynthesis of himeic acid A in A. japonicus MF275 has been clarified by feeding experiments and the analysis of himA PKS‐NRPS gene disruption.
