A study of “pericyclic reactions” by molecular electron density theory has shown that bonding changes take place sequentially through a non‐concerted symmetric electron density reorganization. The high activation energies of these reactions are associated with the initial rupture of the double bonds. This study has led to the definition of “pericyclic reactions” being ruled out.
