Towards the use of monofluorinated dimyristoylphosphatidylcholines as 19F NMR reporters in bacterial model membranes

We report biophysical studies of novel fluorine-labelled prokaryotic cell model membranes aiming to be used as NMR reporters for the study of biomolecule complexes. FTIR studies of F-DMPC/DMPC/DMPG tertiary mixtures were carried out at various fluorinated lipid/non-fluorinated lipid and PC/PG ratio. Preliminary solid-state static 19F- and 31P-NMR analyses are also reported and confirmed that those mixed bilayers could be used as bacterial model membranes to study interactions with biomolecules in NMR spectroscopy.
