β-ZnMoO4 plates and α-ZnMoO4·0.8H2O rod bundles are synthesized in a controllable way by simply adjusting the reactant concentration. The photocatalytic mechanisms of α- and β-ZnMoO4 are explored. Radical-trapping experiments evidence ·O2 and H+ as being the main reactive species. ZnMoO4 displays excellent photocatalytic properties.
