The origins of paediatric sleep-disordered breathing are still not completely understood, and more intriguingly, what exists of our understanding is scattered among a variety of fields, some of which traditionally have little professional interaction with one another. Among busy clinicians, time might not permit curiosity about development of sleep-disordered breathing beyond the obvious: adenotonsillar hypertrophy, frequently dispatched by surgical resection with the possibility for short-term clinical improvement in at least some domains.
