First page of articleMental disorders can devastate and shorten lives, impoverish individuals, and create social problems. They can also be very costly to families, communities, and national economies—in 2010, the global cost of mental disorders was US$2493 billion, and was projected to exceed $6000 billion by 2030.1 However, evidence-based public mental health interventions can prevent these disorders, treat them when they arise, prevent associated effects, and promote mental wellbeing.2 Furthermore, many such interventions are not only affordable, but also economically attractive.
