Zoonotic tuberculosis (TB), which is caused by transmission of Mycobacterium bovis from animals to human beings, is a huge global problem. Bovine TB mainly affects cattle, but WHO estimates that in 2016, 147 000 zoonotic cases of TB in humans were reported, resulting in 12 500 deaths. Now, four partners in health—WHO, the World Organisation for Animal Health, the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, and The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease—have launched a roadmap to highlight priorities for addressing zoonotic TB globally.
